Accepted the Artsupp Card
On the occasion of the celebrations for the centenary of the birth of Primo Levi , the GAM of Turin in collaboration with the Centro Internazionale di Studi Primo Lev i, exhibits for the first time in Italy, in the spaces of the Wunderkammer, a significant selection of the wire works created by the great writer and intellectual curated by Fabio Levi and Guido Vaglio, with the staging project by Gianfranco Cavaglià with the collaboration of Anna Rita Bertorello.
These are objects with a strong intimate and domestic character, destined for the shelves of the writer's studio or to be given as gifts to closest friends: there are no precise dates (roughly they date back to the period 1955/1975), nor titles attributed by the author. The material used is generally copper wire : his work as a chemist specialized in the enamelling of electrical conductors allowed him to dispose of waste and test materials in quantity.
As such, therefore, they are treated in the exhibition: not as works of art, but as products of Levi's imagination and manual skill: a game, in the broadest and most positive meaning of the term. What takes nothing away, as will be seen, from the grace and quality of the artefacts; the author's thoughts and suggestions take shape in these objects, in which the scientific precision of the detail is accompanied and alternated with a more impressionist look.
