The Merz Foundation presents, from Monday, October 28th to Sunday, February 2nd, 2024, the second part of the exhibition Something that removes the weight that maintains the absurdity and lightness of the fable dedicated to Mario Merz, on the occasion of the centenary of the artist's birth on January 1st, 2025, in the spaces of the Foundation in Turin at Via Limone 24.

The exhibition presents a selection of works including installations, igloos, tables, canvases, and works on paper. In addition to the works already present in the first setup, three other imposing works in terms of content and size are added for this new phase. The exhibition project starts from the concept linked to the need to identify the deep nature behind the models to reach the basis of human thought, which in its diversity is always defined by laws that escape the passage of time and the variety of environments.

The phrase that gives the title to the exhibition was extracted from a writing by Mario Merz and is linked to this need to look at nature and the passage of time in order to achieve a sense of conceptual lightness, which is found in the core of the presented works. In the works on display, there are elements and concepts that reoccur and are linked in a path that, always quoting Merz, maintains the absurdity and lightness of the fable...

The dreamlike and delicate atmosphere that has pervaded the exhibition space until today, radiated by the golden reflections emanating from the igloo Untitled (gold leaves) (1997), from the wax of the table Four tables in the shape of magnolia leaves (1985), exhibited on this occasion for the first time in Europe, from the transparency of the vases of The horizont de lumière traverse notre vertical du jour (1995) as well as from the works on the walls already on display, a dominant counterpoint emerges, due to the installation of two other igloos from 1989 and 2002 and an imposing pictorial work, Geco in casa (1983).
