Palazzo Madama – Civic Museum of Ancient Art of Turin, presents, from 10 May to 28 August 2023, the Byzantine exhibition. Places, symbols and communities of a millennial empire, curated by Federico Marazzi with the contribution of MANN - National Archaeological Museum of Naples, Palazzo Madama and the Hellenic Ministry of Culture and Sport and collaboration in the general organization of Global Village International .

The exhibition, proposed from 21 December 2022 to 10 April 2023 at the MANN - National Archaeological Museum of Naples, arrives in Turin, as a second venue, to illustrate the "Byzantine millennium" with the main exhibition corpus integrated by a section dedicated to the relationship with the Piedmont area.

Over 350 works - sculptures, mosaics, frescoes, pottery, seals and coins, extraordinary ceramic artefacts, enamels, silver objects, precious gems and goldsmith's art, valuable architectural elements - give an account of the structures, organizational systems, trades and rituals of a complex political reality, testifying at the same time the excellence of Byzantine manufactures, the crossroads of culture, stylistic features and symbols of the Eastern Empire through the centuries. It is the artistic creativity of the ancient world that passes towards the Middle Ages, with a language renewed by the Christian faith and with the additions of the Eastern world, in particular of Iranian and Arab culture.

Hundreds of loans from important Italian museums and from over twenty Greek museums arrive in Turin to narrate the millennial effort of an Empire aimed at dialogue between classical and oriental culture.
