From 7 November to 9 January 2021
Artissima International of Contemporary Art is proposed for 2020 in the Unplugged version. A new formula, expanded in time and space, which brings together physical exhibitions, created with the Torino Musei Foundation, and digital projects: an acoustic version of the fair that focuses its attention on the instrument (the works) and the voice (the galleries).
With the title Stasi Frenetica, from 7 November 2020 to 9 January 2021 (preview by invitation on 5 and 6 November 2020), the museums of the Torino Musei Foundation - GAM - Civic Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art, Palazzo Madama - Museo Civico d 'Ancient Art and MAO Oriental Art Museum - will host a corpus of works from the Artissima galleries selected for this edition of the fair, offering a glimpse of what the public would find in the stands. A choral presentation on the theme of Frenetic Stasis, curated by Ilaria Bonacossa in close dialogue with the gallery owners involved.
A synergic work, born with and for the Artissima galleries, which is proposed both as a cultural project and as an opportunity for visibility and promotion for the most important interlocutors of the event.
The MAO will put a selection of 10 “orientalist” works in dialogue with the museum's collections , and therefore included in the visit itinerary. The visitor will thus be invited to a special treasure hunt through the historic building that houses the museum. The contrast between past and present will lead to reflect on how contemporary art is born in response to a rich history of formal, spiritual and artisanal elements. The exhibition testifies to the in-depth research of some galleries in the discovery of the developments of contemporary art of the East.
The concept of Frenetic Stasis at the basis of the exhibitions is an invitation to reflect on the idea of acceleration as opposed to inertia and on the increasingly urgent need to change our paradigms and seek possible answers to the current crisis. Answers that could and should also be suggested by a profound and meditated cultural and social evolution conveyed by art, which has always been a witness to past histories and civilizations and at the same time a catalyst for the most innovative visions. A theme at the center of the most current debates that also represents an interesting interpretation of the past months, characterized by the alternation of different lockdown modes.
