The Musée Georges Labit is a museum of oriental art in Toulouse. among the oldest Asian art museums in France. It is located on the Canal du Midi, between the two districts des Demoiselles and the Busca. Inaugurated in 1893, the name of the Musée Georges Labit derives from the traveler, ethnologist and collector Georges Labit, who in the course of his travels gathered a collection of art objects from the Far East, wanting to make it a museum for his contemporaries and for future generations. This collection recalls the ancient cultures (up to the 19th century) of India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Champa and Annam (today's Vietnam), Siam (today's Thailand), Laos, Java, Nepal, Tibet, China and Japan. The objects were chosen for their aesthetic qualities and for their ability to evoke in a simple way the culture to which they belong. Over the years, the collection has been enriched by numerous and important donations and purchases. The collection consists of sculptures, ceramics, masks, prints, religious and funerary objects, reportage photographs among the first in the world. The building in which the museum is located is a neo-Moorish architecture, built in 1893, also equipped with a small garden open to the public, composed of Asian and Mediterranean plants.
