Southampton City Art Gallery is an art gallery located in the city of Southampton, England.

The gallery, the idea of which was by Robert Chipperfield as early as 1911 but was only opened in 1939 thanks to the loan of two bequests: one from Robert Chipperfield and another from Frederick William Smith.

The art collection held in the gallery covers a period of six centuries of European art history with a total of 5,300 works in its fine art collection, which is also considered to be of great national value.

The collection is in fact considered one of the largest concerning modern English art outside London; works from post impressionism, surrealism and the abstract artists of St Ives can be found here.

Among the other works there is a fourteenth-century altarpiece by Allegretto Nuzi, by the Italian Giambattista Pittoni; Burne-Jones's Perseus series; paintings by the Camden Town Group and the London Group; various sculptures by Jacob Epstein, Auguste Rodin, Edgar Degas, Henri Gaudier Brzeska, Richard Deacon and Tony Cragg; and photographs by Richard Long.

Southampton City Art Gallery also offers an extensive program of contemporary art and history exhibitions through collaboration with many artists and art institutions.
