From 17 April to 2 June 2025
On Thursday, April 17th at 5:00 PM, the photographic exhibition "Alessandro Penso: Life on the edge. At the borders of Europe: portraits of resilience" will be inaugurated at Forte Santa Tecla. This powerful visual testimony was created by the documentary photographer Alessandro Penso. The exhibition offers a deep and human look at the challenges and difficulties faced by people on the move, reflecting on the themes of migration, borders, and passages in a world increasingly marked by inequalities and conflicts.
Through his documentation work, Penso guides us on a journey that touches some of the most critical points of contemporary society, including the borders between South Sudan and neighboring countries, Bosnia, Greece, the Swiss border, and the Franco-Italian border. His photographs tell stories of lives in transit, of people crossing seas, lands, and mountains in search of a better future, always balancing between hope and despair.
Penso's images are not just a documentation of physical passages, but also a profound reflection on the human impact of migration. Each shot is a testimony of courage, suffering, and resilience, an invitation to face the reality of those forced to move to escape war, poverty, and violence. His photographs tell us not only the faces and bodies of those crossing borders, but also the hope hidden behind each step into the unknown.
With his unique approach and commitment in the field, Penso manages to highlight not only the dramatic nature of the situation, but also the humanity that emerges even in the most difficult moments. His work invites us to reflect on the role of the photojournalist as a witness of our times, a bearer of stories that often risk being forgotten, and on the importance of giving visibility to these experiences to stimulate greater understanding and compassion.
The exhibition "Alessandro Penso: Life on the edge. At the borders of Europe: portraits of resilience" is not just a display of photographs; it is an invitation to think and act on urgent issues, to reflect on the borders that separate and the passages that unite, on the human condition of those who, with courage and determination, seek to cross the physical and psychological barriers that mark our world.
