The Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen was born out of the passion of 1,700 private collectors . Since 1849, the year the museum was founded, they have donated as many as 50,000 art objects.

The Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen takes its name from two important collectors: Frans Boijmans and Daniël George van Beuninge b.
