The show

Wang Yancheng , one of the most internationally known Chinese artists, arrives at the National Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art under the sign of dialogue and mutual exchange between Eastern tradition and Western pictorial research. The exhibition, curated by Maria Giuseppina Di Monte and Gabriele Simongini, presents 34 paintings, many of which are large and made for the occasion. It is promoted by the National Gallery and organized by the International Foundation of Modern and Contemporary Art and the Foundation for Chinese Art in Italy.

Chinese by birth and French by adoption , Wang Yancheng thinks that "by combining science and art we can discover the truth of the future". Thus the artist becomes an intermediary between macrocosm (the void in the endless space of the Universe, as he himself wrote) and microcosm (for example, the quantum as an elementary particle associated with a force field). As Maria Giuseppina Di Monte writes, “the exhibition will present large-format works, mostly rectangular, which do not betray the classic concept of painting, rather they pursue it under the banner of the awareness that history and memory are founding values of our civilization: of the West as well as the East.

Wang Yancheng organizes the surface of the canvas by creating an autonomous and self-sufficient microcosm: something that we do not recognize at first sight since the painting appears to us only as an aggregate of colored spots but at a closer look these material agglomerations take on a life of their own and independent, as were secretions, growths, filaments, which cover the canvas giving life to organic forms recognizable as if they were observed under a microscope. Hence the title of the exhibition, “Micro and Macro” which underlies an almost scientific conception of art and of painting in particular ”.
