the National Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art inaugurates An indicative present, curated by Antonello Tolve, an exhibition that proposes an unprecedented investigation into a magnificent generation of artists who have shaped the Roman artistic panorama and beyond, by virtue of innovative, disruptive visions, with decidedly original features, up to preparing new trajectories of contemporary art.

The exhibition presents around sixty works by 14 artists. Andrea Aquilanti, Paolo Canevari, Gea Casolaro, Marco Colazzo, Bruna Esposito, Alberto Di Fabio, Stanislao Di Giugno, Marina Paris, Giuseppe Pietroniro, Roberto Pietrosanti, Gioacchino Pontrelli, Andrea Salvino, Maurizio Savini, Adrian Tranquilli reconstruct, each from his own point of view, a new narrative of art. The cornerstone of this new narration in which the artists on display are the protagonists is a gaze that is able to intercept the neuralgic points of the aesthetic sensibility that guide artistic-cultural phenomena existing on a planetary level.

An indicative present is just one of the many presents that dot the current panorama of the arts, a horizon in which personalities move who continue to produce lines of research that are increasingly open to methodological dynamics from which a conscious way of acting on the scene of reality emerges. The fourteen artists who draw up this reflective itinerary are the protagonists of a research with a highly personal slant, while they bring into play operating procedures that we can define as "chameleon-like, babelic, versatile" (Tolve). They are the subject of a careful investigation that aims to take stock of a generation of masters and at the same time of a new artistic sensibility that converges towards the value of a necessary experimentation carried out on several interdisciplinary levels, in some cases deliberately ideological.
