From 9 April to 28 June 2024
From 9 April to 28 June 2024, the Accademia Nazionale di San Luca presents the exhibition Refractions. 15 curators x 15 artists , conceived by Marco Tirelli, President of the Academy, with the scientific coordination of Massimo Mininni, art historian and curator, and Barbara Reggio, curator within the Academy.
“Since its establishment, at the end of the sixteenth century, the Accademia di San Luca was conceived as a partnership of artists and architects which, on its autonomy and independence, built its prestige and charisma. To this day, the Academy develops its own path based on the exclusive will of the artists, architects and historians who compose it – states Marco Tirelli – It is in this light, and it is precisely the case to use this expression, that we must understand this exhibition, which has no claim to offer an exhaustive overview of what is happening today in contemporary art, but can certainly be understood as a stage in a path of investigation that will continue over time".
The exhibition project involved fifteen curators - of different generations and heterogeneous critical fields, among the most attentive and recognized, even at an international level, with experience gained in curating exhibitions at public and private institutions - with the aim of providing a diversified cross-section and multifaceted of the contemporary artistic panorama, paying particular attention to the most recent research.
In turn, the fifteen curators identified fifteen artists who developed their own interpretation of the spaces of the Academy, including the places where study, research, socialization and exhibition activities normally take place. The contemporary works will thus be disseminated in the historical spaces of one of the oldest academies in Europe, understood as the "House of Artists", a dialogue that intends to return to the topos of the past-present relationship, looking at the multiple and fragmented languages of modernity.
