From 28 June to 3 March 2024
The Panorama XIX exhibition offers a selection of works from the collections of the National Gallery which reflects on the one hand the process of gradual accumulation that gave rise to the museum's nineteenth-century collections - acquired from private individuals, at National Exhibitions, the Promoters of Art and the Venice Biennales, coming from bequests or donations - and which on the other hand reveals the variety and mix between genres of a century that opens up to modernity.
After the camera obscura, the Claude mirror, the magic lanterns and the stereoscopes, the nineteenth century wanted to express - also through the illusionism of the panorama - the complexity of the processes of vision that will contribute to the birth of the cinema.
