Mahler & LeWitt Studios and Fondazione Carla Fendi are collaborating again on a new project to present the work of the award-winning American photographer of Dominican origin, Luis Alberto Rodriguez, created in collaboration with Italian set designer Afra Zamara.Photographer Luis Alberto Rodriguez, along with set designer Afra Zamara, has created a series of images using some precious costumes from the historical archive of the Festival dei Due Mondi, recently established. Around 3,800 costumes illustrate the history of the festival's performances from the 1960s to the 2000s, in parallel with the evolution of culture and fashion. Drawing from their backgrounds, one in dance and the other in set design, Rodriguez and Zamara have reinterpreted some costumes, tying, knotting, overlapping them, while capturing the charm and details of the original models, but placing them in new situations from which to explore the relationships between performance, attire, and expression of identity. Rodriguez trained as a dancer and performed worldwide for fifteen years before turning to photography. Today, he continues to study form and bodily movement, often using the body and clothing of the subject in a sculptural and abstract way.
