From 31 March to 28 May 2023
On Friday 31 March at 6 pm the National Gallery opens the exhibition Food Age. Food as Influencer, curated by Martí Guixé and Inga Knölke.
An everyday and ephemeral element, food is paradoxically the object we have to deal with the most during our existence. With the exhibition Food Age. Food as Influencer, Martí Guixé and Inga Knölke stage it and, through a subliminal reading, show it to the public from an unprecedented point of view. In fact, by depriving food of its edibility and transfiguring it – through art, craftsmanship and design – into the object of a public and museum representation, the curators question our points of reference and invite us to look, through a different perspective, this suddenly complex and multifaceted object.
For Guixé and Knölke, food is in fact not only the product of exclusively nutritional or experiential functions but also an important relational and reflection model: a pervasive influencer who can actively reshape the present, thus becoming, for our future, an inescapable still unknown field of design experimentation. Food Age. Food as Influencer is the final exhibition of the trilogy curated by Martí Guixé and Inga Knölke for the National Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art: three exhibitions that have seen the museum, for the first time, explore the hybrid territory in a radical and unconventional key in which art, design and craftsmanship interact
