From 26 November to 27 February 2022
Already a scholarship holder of the French Academy in Rome in 2012-13, Katinka Bock is now back with an exhibition project conceived specifically for Villa Medici as part of the Art Club contemporary art cycle, curated by Pier Paolo Pancotto. From 25 November 2021 to 27 February 2022, the artist presents two bronze sculptures, Insomnie and Amnesie, created in 2021 and housed under the large Loggia that overlooks the seven hectares of the Villa's gardens. Nerve center of the Villa, the Loggia will host these two unpublished works that renew a sculptural language conceived in physical and visual relationship with the occupied space.
Katinka Bock's plastic research focuses on the study of matter, natural or artificial, and on the evolutionary processes to which it is subject when it interacts with the surrounding reality. The resulting forms are the result of a working process in which the rational and the unexpected interact, taking on characteristics that are now more organic and now more assimilable to an iconographic and iconological repertoire inherent in the collective imagination. These forms are made of different materials - metal, leather, wood, stone, fabric, plaster, clay, ceramic, graphite - which, associated with everyday objects, give rise to installations that reflect on temporality, space, history and nature, in a delicate balance that leaves room for the unexpected and future alterations.
