The Fondazione Pastificio Cerere, a space for creative production, a center for cultural exchange and meeting for artists and curators, celebrates twenty years since its establishment with two exhibitions: the collective Angels. Fifty years of stories of Pastificio Cerere and Anche il sole sorge, the solo exhibition by Wang Yuxiang (Anhui in China, 1997), curated by the artistic director Marcello Smarrelli, open to the public from October 2 to November 30, 2024.
On this occasion, the new exhibition area designed by the architecture studio STARTT and a new path for the permanent collection will be inaugurated.
Angels. Fifty years of stories of Pastificio Cerere gathers artworks, photos, videos, and archive documents, to create a storytelling that reflects the vitality of the former pasta factory, characterized by sudden changes and long stays of famous or more discreet figures, many of whom are linked to the artists of the Scuola di San Lorenzo, the critics and curators who frequented the Palazzo from the seventies onwards (Achille Bonito Oliva, Martha Boyden, Ester Coen, etc.), the gallery owners (Pino Casagrande, Ugo Ferranti, Fabio Sargentini, Gian Enzo Sperone, etc.), the supporters and patrons (Graziella Lonardi Buontempo, Elsa Peretti, etc.), and many others who for various reasons frequented or lived in the studios.
Among the authors involved, belonging to very diverse generations and backgrounds, we find first of all Francesca Woodman, whose famous photographic series of the Angels (1977) inspired the title of the exhibition, along with Lara Almarcegui, Micol Assaël, Carl Andre & Ana Mendieta, Elisabetta Benassi, Thomas Berra, Patrizia Cavalli, Numero Cromatico, Enzo Cucchi, Tomaso De Luca, Jim Dine, Flavio Favelli, Francesco Fonassi, Claire Fontaine, Corinna Gosmaro, Antony Gromley, David Hammons, Helena Hladilová, Adelita Husni-Bey, Margherita Moscardini, Giampiero Quaini, Calixto Ramírez, Fabrizio Sartori, Namsal Siedlecki, Giuseppe Stampone, with a special testimony by Romolo and Rosalba Bulla.
A significant part of the exhibition consists of precious materials from the archives of the six of the Scuola di San Lorenzo and those of other important artists and photographers such as Claudio Abate, Elisabetta Catalano, Ottavio Celestino, Mimmo Capone, Ileana Florescu, Toni Garbasso, Enrico Luzzi, and Massimo Piersanti.
