It is located in the "Champs libres" cultural center, which also houses the science museum and a large library. Founded in 1976, it is a museum with a regional vocation. Its goal is to preserve, study and present the history of Brittany and the Breton heritage from the earliest traces of man to today, participating in its enhancement and dissemination. Its collection includes over 600,000 documents and objects, including archaeological finds; the numismatic collection; the ethnographic collection, which includes objects of daily and domestic life, including furniture, clothes, dishes, work tools; the iconographic collection, which includes drawings, prints, flyers, maps, photographs. The Dreyfus Fund is also particularly interesting: in fact, in Rennes, the second trial of Alfred Dreyfus took place, right in the high school (now Emile Zola high school), not far from the museum.
