The Arp Museum Bahnhof Rolandseck is a museum and cultural center in Remagen which houses numerous artistic collections, in particular modern art. Opened in 2007, the museum is housed in a classicist building of the former Rolandseck station. The museum has also been enriched by a further modern-style building, designed by the American architect Richard Meier and harmoniously integrated into nature, located on a slope behind the station and connected to it by a tunnel.
The museum holds three large collections of modern art. However, the works are not shown in a permanent collection, but are temporarily set up through temporary exhibitions, in turn enriched by international loans.
The Arp collection contains over 400 works, mainly relating to the period of the European avant-gardes. This is the core of the museum's collection, which gave the impetus to its realization. There are numerous works by Hans Arp, which therefore reconstruct his artistic history.
The Rau collection contains about 270 European paintings and sculptures, from the Middle Ages to the beginning of the 19th century. Among the numerous artists present, it is worth mentioning works by artists such as Nicola Pisano, Canaletto, Degas, Courbet, Monet, Renoir.
Finally, the Contemporary Art collection contains over a thousand works of international contemporary art.
Within the museum space, exhibitions, conferences, concerts, artists' conferences and festivals are also organized.
