For his first institutional solo exhibition in Italy,

Giulia Andreani presents L'improductiva, a project composed of an organic corpus of new paintings, including some large formats, and watercolors conceived for the South Room of the Maramotti Collection.

Andreani's work originates from the elaboration of collective memories, from fragments of history that risk being lost, which the artist recovers and transforms into articulated pictorial compositions, into visual collages built through correspondences.

His primary source of research and inspiration are the archives, and in particular the objects of the analogue era that they contain: faded letters, now yellowed documents and above all black and white photographic prints that the artist selects, collects and filters in an linear, restoring its essential elements.

Guided by an unorthodox research approach - in which images of the past are metabolised through the artist's subjectivity - Andreani's work aims to bring out invisible people and forgotten facts, places and moments often inextricably linked to historical experience, social and cultural of the female gender. In many of her works Andreani, who defines herself as a feminist painter-researcher, questions herself by analyzing the ways in which women have been considered and represented in different eras, highlighting the underlying power dynamics and managing to undermine gender stereotypes.

His "painting with photography" is fueled by a reshuffle of latent tensions and past figures which, reactivated, become sentinels of the present.
