The Museum of the Abbey of Sant'Eutizio in Valcastoriana is located in Preci, near Piedivalle. The Abbey is one of the oldest monastic complexes in Italy. The construction of the building dates back to the 5th century when a group of Syrian monks and hermits arrived in Valcastoriana. Today much of the original architecture and paintings can be admired. Several important personalities passed through this place, among which San Benedetto and San Francesco are remembered. In 1997, following the earthquake, the walls of the initial complex emerged in reference to San Gregorio Magno. The church represents a perfect example of Romanesque architecture with a sepulchral monument dedicated to Saints Eutizio and Spes in the center of the choir. The Museum collects over 1500 years of history with various artistic testimonies. The rooms of the Museum preserve the works of art and crafts connected to the abbey and to the populations of the surrounding area. The collection includes paintings on wood and canvas, wooden sculptures, embroideries and works on embossed leather. An important section is dedicated to the finds that were donated by Monsignor Ansano Fabbri and that group together elements from the Neolithic and Bronze Age up to the Roman era.
