The Potsdam Museum - Forum fūr Kunst und Geschichte (Forum for Art and History) is a museum in Potsdam, a city just outside Berlin. Founded in the early 20th century, the museum has one of the largest collections of regional art, culture and history in the state of Brandenburg, counting over 250,000 objects. The different collections include cultural and historical-military areas, as well as works of art.
The collection of painting, graphics and sculpture from the late Middle Ages to the present includes nearly 13,500 objects. There are historical paintings, engravings and drawings with views of the city of Potsdam, landscape views and portraits of its citizens. There are also works by contemporary regional artists, including Karl Hagemeister, Heinrich Basedow the Elder. J. and Philipp Franck. In 1976 the "Socialist Art Gallery" (GSK) was founded. With around 5,200 works of painting, graphics and sculpture it makes up the bulk of the museum's post-1945 art collection.
A key section of the museum is the photographic one, which currently includes around 100,000 photographs on the urban, political and cultural history of the city of Potsdam and its surroundings from the mid-19th century to the present day.
The military historical collection preserves various historical weapons, uniforms and equipment that derive from a rich collection partly destroyed after the Second World War.
In parallel with the permanent exhibition, temporary exhibitions on the history of the city, art and culture are presented, as well as events and series of discussions on current issues in the city.
