The National Museum of Napoleonic Residences

The National Museum of Napoleonic Residences on the Island of Elba is located in Portoferraio, the island's main city. The Museum consists of two exhibition sites: the Palazzina dei Mulini and the Villa di San Martino. The Museum is housed inside the Palazzina dei Mulini, in the city center. The Museum recalls the history and vicissitudes of Napoleon Bonaparte's stay on the island. In the Palazzina dei Mulini Napoleon tried to recreate a court atmosphere. Inside the house we find relics, furnishings and period furniture. The palace was decorated by Antonio Vincenzo Revelli, official painter of the Elban court. Today we find the original decorations and furnishings. Napoleon during his stay on the Island of Elba decided to create his own small library, where he gathered 2378 volumes. This shows how much Napoleon was interested in learning about the history and life of men and civilization. There is no shortage of works of literature from Greek classics, from Latin authors up to Voltaire. The Museum in the Palazzina dei Mulini is open to the public with guided tours.
