Pierre Corneille Museum

The Musée Pierre Corneille is a house museum dedicated to Pierre Corneille, a French poet and playwright who lived in the 17th century. It is located in Petit-Couronne, a small town not far from Rouen. It is a typical Norman manor, with half-timbered walls and slate cladding. It was the playwright's family country house (while the birthplace, also today a house-museum, is located in Rouen), purchased by the writer's father in 1608 and subsequently inherited by him. The museum preserves the original appearance of the house at the time of the poet and playwright. Its collection preserves numerous period objects and original manuscripts. In addition, the museum regularly organizes two annual temporary exhibitions. Besides the museum, it is also possible to visit the garden (more than 2200 square meters large, enriched by numerous fruit trees), immersing yourself in the atmosphere that inspired Corneille, or his contemporaries Molière and Racine.
