The Perth Museum and Art Gallery is the premier museum and exhibition space in the city of Perth, Scotland. The museum is housed in the Marshall Monument, dedicated to Thomas Hay Marshall, a former provost of Perth. The Marshall Monument was designed by David Morison and sculpted by John Cochrane and Brothers. The Perth Museum and Art Gallery, also seen the building in which it is located, is one of the oldest purpose built museums in the UK. The museum was opened on August 10, 1935 by George VI and Queen Elizabeth. The museum's initial collection housed the donated paintings and natural history collections of the Perthshire Society of Natural Science that had previously been held in another museum in the city. Today the museum's collection includes the South Corston fragment of the Strathmore meteorite and the mummy of a woman named Ta-kr-hb.
