The Römische Villa Nennig is a Roman villa located in Perl, in the immediate vicinity of Saarbrücken. It preserves an extraordinary mosaic floor in perfect condition, one of the most important examples of Roman art north of the Alps and one of the few mosaics that can still be visited today in its original site. The mosaic, discovered in 1852 by a farmer, is 160 square meters wide and is made up of over three million stones. The realism and its richness of detail are still a source of great wonder for viewers today. There are lively scenes of the Roman amphitheater: hunters of bloodied animals, musicians and fighters of the show. The central image shows the climax of the fight between two gladiators. The outstanding 3rd century AD work of art once adorned the atrium of a luxurious villa, which also stood out among the Mosel country villas, with a 140m long facade.

The Moselle region was in fact much appreciated by the Romans for its mild climate and for the presence of numerous vineyards, for this reason the site of numerous rustic villas. Inside the museum, several videos provide information on the history and interpretation of the villa and show a reconstruction of the entire complex.
