The Municipality of Pavia and the Department of Culture, Museums, Events and Territorial Marketing together with the Order of Architects, Landscape Planners and Conservators of the Province of Pavia, in collaboration with Fabbricapoggi, present, from 2 June to 30 September 2022 at the Civic Museums in Pavia, the exhibition Il mondo di Poggi - The workshop of design and the arts, an important retrospective dedicated to the figure of Roberto Poggi from Pavia (1924-2020) and his key role in the history of Italian design. For over sixty years, in fact, together with his workers, Poggi has created numerous furnishings considered icons of industrial design and present in the collections of prestigious international museums.
The exhibition, curated by Roberto Dulio, Fabio Marino and Stefano Andrea Poli, professors at the Milan Polytechnic and authors of the homonymous volume Il mondo di Poggi - The workshop of design and arts (Electa, Milan 2019), is divided into an exhibition itinerary that presents to the public Poggi's multifaceted activity and his decisive role in the dialogue with different generations of architects and designers, including Franco Albini, Vico Magistretti, Marco Zanuso, Afra and Tobia Scarpa. Drawings, period photographs, prototypes and furnishings made are exhibited, as well as a recent documentary directed by Valeria Parisi in which Poggi himself retraces his history. The archive materials are flanked by some significant paintings collected by Roberto Poggi, including works by Mauro Reggiani, Gianni Dova, Roberto Crippa, Paolo Scheggi, which testify to the refined artistic sensitivity that guided one of the founding fathers of Italian Design.
The exhibition is also an opportunity to present the winning project of the Competition of Ideas for architects under 35 - The world of Poggi, an initiative born from the collaboration between the Order of Architects, Landscape Planners and Conservators of the Province of Pavia and Cassina, the well-known design company that currently the production of some of the historical pieces designed by Franco Albini, previously produced by Poggi, continues. The competition, launched last year and aimed at young generations of designers, required the design of a chair inspired by the design philosophy of Albini, who collaborated so much with Poggi.
