The Musée Guimet is a museum located in Paris, in the 16th arrondissement, not far from the Arc du Triomphe. It is the largest oriental art museum outside Asia. The museum's original collection was born from the French industrialist Emile Guimet, who brought it together during his travels in Asia, trips often also wanted and financed by the French government itself for an in-depth study on Asian culture. The Musée Guimet presents interesting collections concerning the different cultures and the main Asian civilizations, covering a time span of about 5000 years. The collections on display consist for the most part of works of calligraphy and painting, gold pottery and pieces of textile art. But also sculptures, design objects, clothes and musical instruments. The museum boasts an impressive 5,500 square meters of permanent exhibits, as well as temporary exhibits. It is divided into several floors, each dedicated to a different geography area. It is also possible to visit the Japanese garden, but open only in the afternoon.
