Montmartre Museum

The Musée de Montmartre is a Paris museum dedicated to Montmartre, the famous district of the city. The Montmartre district is famous all over the world for being the district of artists, in particular between the end of the nineteenth century and the beginning of the twentieth century. In a short time it became the bohemian neighborhood par excellence, hosting artists and free spirits who frequented it as an alternative to the good bourgeois society of central Paris. The museum is housed in a 17th century building, where some of the most famous French artists lived, such as Renoir and Suzanne Valadon and Maurice Utrillo. The museum's collection belongs to and is curated by the association "Le Vieux Montmartre", created in 1886. It consists of paintings, photographs, posters and manuscripts that tell the history of the neighborhood, in particular its bohemian aspect and 19th century cabaret theater. and XX century. There are works by artists such as Toulouse Lautrec, Modigliani, Steinlein, Utrillo and Kupka. In addition, the museum often hosts temporary exhibitions of different themes. Finally, a short distance from the museum are the Renoir gardens, which were often the subject of the painter's paintings during the period in which he lived in the building. The gardens can be visited and allow you to enjoy a beautiful view from above over Paris.
