The Galerie de Paléontologie et d'Anatomie comparée is a museum that is part of the National Museum of Natural History in Paris. It is located inside the Jardin des Plantes, in the 5th arrondissement. The paleontology gallery presents a collection of fossils and vertebrates (especially dinosaurs) and invertebrates, chosen from among the most representative of the museum's collection of fossils. The comparative anatomy gallery, on the other hand, presents a thousand skeletons, eggs, phanas and illustrates their organization and classification. The exhibition is also organized from a chronological point of view, with an itinerary starting from 540 million years ago.
The Gallery was opened in 1898 for the 1900 Paris Universal Exposition. The building that houses it was classified as a Historic Monument in 1993. Constructed of glass and metal, it is more than 80 meters long, with exterior facades decorated with numerous naturalist-inspired sculptures with large glass surfaces.
