The Deutsches Museum - Flugwerft Schleissheim is one of the five exhibition venues of the Deutsches Museum, a famous museum in Munich dedicated to science and technology. It is one of the largest and most important museums of this kind in the world. Founded in 1903, the theme of the museum is the development of science and technology, from its origins to modern times: the museum aims to highlight, against the historical-cultural background, the most important moments in the field of research, inventions and constructions and to explain their meaning and consequences.
The Museuminsel is the main seat of the Museum. Among the other locations, the Flugwerft Schleissheim is located in Oberschleißheimm, a municipality not far from Munich. Inaugurated as a branch office in 2003, the museum is dedicated to airplanes, helicopters, powertrains, simulators and exhibitions on the themes of the history of aeronautics and astronautics. The museum is located on an area of 7 500 square meters and has two separate exhibit buildings, as well as an internal airstrip. On display are propeller planes, jet planes, VTOL planes, gliders, motor gliders, helicopters, propeller engines, turboprop engines, jet engines, rocket engines.
