The Neues Museum Nürnberg is a museum of modern, contemporary and design art in Nuremberg. Inaugurated in 2000, the modern building in which the museum is located was designed by architect Volker Staab and has a particular visual impact due to its curved entirely glass facade, about 100 meters long, located in the heart of the historic city center. The museum's art collection originates from the International Contemporary Art Collection of the city of Nuremberg, brought together since 1967 by Dietrich Mahlow and continuously expanded ever since. The second collection of the museum, namely the one relating to design, comes from the Die Neue Sammlung museum in Munich. These two collections were integrated with various private collections of art and design, giving rise to the Neues Museum.
The art section preserves paintings, sculptures, photographs, videos and installations, mostly from the 1950s to the present day. There are works by Andy Warhol, Joseph Beuys and Neo Rauch. The section dedicated to design presents objects of international design from 1945 to today.
In the canal between the Sterntor and Frauentor, a few steps from the Neues Museum, a sculpture garden has been opened which refers to the museum.
