From 10 July to 23 January 2022
The MAN Museum of Art in the Province of Nuoro presents two major exhibitions at the same time from Saturday 10 July 2021 to Sunday 23 January 2022: Via San Gennaro, personal exhibition by Sonia Leimer (Merano, 1977), curated by Luigi Fassi and dedicated to the project that won the Italian Council of 2018, and Vittorio Accornero - Edina Altara. Family group with images, the first retrospective entirely conceived in homage to the work and figures of Vittorio Accornero de Testa (Casale Monferrato, 1896 - Milan, 1982) and Edina Altara (Sassari, 1898 - Lanusei, 1983), curated by Luca Scarlini.
The Via San Gennaro project is the winner of the fourth edition of the Italian Council (2018), a competition conceived by the Directorate General for Contemporary Art and Architecture and Urban Peripheries (DGAAP) of the MiC-Ministry of Culture to promote Italian contemporary art in the world, financing new works by some of the most significant Italian artists in strategic collaboration with Italian and international museums. On this occasion, MAN has developed a path of support for Sonia Leimer in partnership with the International Studio & Curatorial Program (ISCP) of New York - one of the most successful incubators of innovative contemporary art productions globally - where the project is was previewed from September 2019 to January 2020 by Kari Conte and Luigi Fassi.
Via San Gennaro is the result of an intensive residence of the artist in New York for several months. During her stay Sonia Leimer conducted a research on the Italian memories of Little Italy in Manhattan, a New York district symbol of the history of Italian migration to the United States, in particular from the southern and Mediterranean regions, a crossroads of individual and collective destinies between the twentieth century and the new millennium.
