The monographic exhibition dedicated to Giovanni Pintori, master of Italian and international graphic design, who linked his name to the birth of the legendary Olivetti image, is part of the research path that the MAN museum of Nuoro dedicates to authors born in Sardinia and who have become protagonists of the world art scene. The MAN museum of Nuoro, in collaboration with the m.a.x. museum of Chiasso, with which it has signed an integrated project for the enhancement of the author, today investigates his research through a kind of long graphic narrative, highlighting the modernity of his language and all his extraordinary creative choices.Three hundred works, including drawings and paintings, original sketches, models, advertising pages from magazines, photographs, and posters, punctuate fifty years of activity rewarded by the most prestigious cultural institutions in the world: from the Golden Palm of the Italian Advertising Federation (1950) to the prestigious exhibition at the MoMA in New York (1952) - in whose garden Pintori built an iron advertising sculpture -, from the exhibition at the Louvre in Paris (1955) to the Certificate of Excellence from the American Institute of Graphic Arts (1955), from the Gold Medal of the Milan International Fair (1956) to the Eighth Annual Typographic Excellence Award from the Type Director Club of New York (1962). During the first session of the newly established AGI - Alliance Graphique Internationale - Pintori was appointed a member and later became president for Italy of the same award, while the famous Japanese magazine "Idea" included him in the list of the thirty most significant designers of the 20th century, thus testifying to his talent and success collected at every latitude. An absolute genius of advertising graphics, chosen by an enlightened industry captain like Adriano Olivetti to convey the name of his company and his legendary products worldwide, from Studio 44 to the very popular Lettera 22, Pintori managed admirably to always synthesize form and content in every single image. Light, color, composition, and creative play are his main areas of research, leading his graphics "to the forefront as a unique metaphor of communication," said Paul Rand, the renowned American designer author of the IBM logo. The fast rhythm of fingers on a typewriter keyboard, characters in freedom, the internal mechanisms of computers transformed into dynamic and cheerful patterns, are some of the elements of his language and a true poetic of writing made of elegance and irony. The exhibition retraces the creative and professional journey of the artist, showing the ideational process from which the projects that have characterized his remarkable career have emerged, ranging from the creation of posters, to flyers, corporate identities, and logos for companies.
