Vallois Rope Museum

The Musée de la corderie vallois is a museum located in Notre-Dame de Bondeville, a town not far from Rouen. It is an old nineteenth century rope factory today used as a museum in memory of the same ancient industry. It is an old factory of the early nineteenth century initially used as a paper mill and then as a tailpiece and woolen mill, for the production of ropes and the weaving of cotton. The path of the museum traces the history of industry and shows visitors the artisanal and industrial techniques of the ancient workers of the rope factory, since the machinery of the industry is still in operation: the water wheel is in fact put into operation every day, to give the energy needed for the remaining machinery of the museum. The musée de la corderie vallois offers an exemplary testimony of the time when "the factories came out of the earth like mushrooms", in a valley called by many "the little Manchester".
