From 17 March to 1 May 2023
"A Treasure of Light and Leaves" is the title of Danilo Ambrosino's exhibition project, curated by Alessandra Pacelli and Olga Scotto di Vettimo, hosted in the Vanella Garden. The exhibition, the artist's second appointment with the MANN, enjoys the patronage of the Donnaregina Foundation for Contemporary Arts and is the first exhibition event hosted in the Vanella Garden, restored and reopened for use in December 2022, the new and enchanted green lung of the Museum. On the external wall of the so-called Braccio Nuovo, 10 large-scale works with a botanical theme are exhibited, which give life to an evocative dialogue between past and present, painting and archeology.
Danilo Ambrosino paints palms, cacti, bamboo, agaves, philodendrons, all the luxuriance of the Mediterranean, crystallizing it in paintings made with the technique of fusion of enamels, which emerge from a gold leaf background. Gold that enhances the shine, gold symbol of great beauty, gold that in these works transforms plants into icons. The centuries-old Neapolitan pictorial tradition takes the form of a contemporary vision of Still Life, portraying plants in their specificity, but projecting them, at the same time, into a dreamlike world.
