In the Salone della Meridiana , the journey begins through a portal, which pushes the visitor to almost cross the Pillars of Hercules, to discover the magic of the great exhibition "Thalassa, wonders submerged by the Mediterranean" (National Archaeological Museum of Naples, 12 December 2019 - March 9, 2020).

The exhibition, which represents a real summa of what has been revealed by the discipline of underwater archeology from 1950 until today, collects about four hundred artifacts from prestigious Italian and international institutions.The symbolic center of the exhibit is the Farnese Atlas, marble masterpiece datable to the second century. AD : the visit path, in fact, with very particular set-up artifices and plays of light, follows the constellations represented in the upper part of the sculpture, following, in a suggestive artistic route between past and present, the modus of ancient sailors who oriented their journey following the sky. The leitmotif of this original itinerary is the discovery of the Mediterranean which, since the most remote historical roots of Western civilizations, was interpreted (and lived) according to different meanings: culture, economy, society, religiosity, nature and landscape are terms that have always been linked to the Mare Nostrum .
