From 12 July to 19 September 2023
The German artist Hella Berent returns to Naples, to the National Archaeological Museum of Naples, to present her long work of transforming matter into poetry. A poem in which the faces of those who, in danger, leave the lands of their mothers and fathers to find refuge where they are not recognized by others, where the family space no longer exists, are the protagonists. Berent's blue and green ceramic sculptures, made over decades, surpass the contingent to allow us to traverse the spaces and times of human history.
The lack of individuality allows the observer to construct the past and allows us to give life back to the faces, which, although modeled in terracotta with ancient wisdom, overcome physical reality to project us towards spiritual reality. The matter, the forms thus become archaeology. The facts of history and the dramas of the present take place under the blue sky, capable of giving poetry and transforming humanity into art.
