One year after the death of Jimmie Durham (1940 - 2021), Campania pays tribute to the artist with the first retrospective ever held in Italy: the Madre, the regional museum of contemporary art, presents Jimmie Durham: humanity is not a completed project , curated by Kathryn Weir, which brings together over 150 works in a journey that intends to analyze the importance of the artist's corpus and return the crucial points of a career that develops through defined lines of research.
On display are iconic works, reconstructions of important exhibitions and installations, some in collaboration with the artist Maria Thereza Alves, and unpublished works, such as Night Hawk , 1954, God's own drunks , 1974, as well as the poem Now , created on the occasion of the call to action promoted by the Madre museum in 2020 during the first confinement due to the pandemic in Italy.
Jimmie Durham: humanity is not a completed project is articulated not only in the rooms on the third floor of the Madre: Durham's voice resounds in the stairs, while some works are installed on the second floor and on the ground floor, including Presepio (2016), which welcomes visitors in the ticket office spaces. Also on the ground floor, a space for in-depth study has been set up in which some of the artist's works are displayed.
