From 25 June to 28 August 2021
The Goethe-Institut Neapel and the Austrian Culture Forum in Rome are delighted to present the video installation Braids on Fire / Trecce in Fiamme (2 channel HD video 2021) by the artist Anna Witt, at the conclusion of the residency project The change beyond the visible one, curated by Maria Teresa Annarumma, in collaboration with the Associazione Amici di Carlo Fulvio Velardi ONLUS and the Museum Complex of Santa Maria delle Anime del Purgatorio in Arco.
"In the spring of this year, Anna Witt, the German artist residing in Vienna, was in Naples to study the social fabric of the city and learn about the work of cultural bodies that promote educational and participatory projects in favor of girls and kids from the most vulnerable neighborhoods. Witt met, in the heart of Forcella, the heads of the Friends of Carlo Fulvio Velardi ONLUS Association which is based at the "Glass House", he spoke with numerous people of different generations, taking particular interest in the life and daily life of women."
The conversations between the women of Forcella, the artist and the curator, took place in the Hypogeum of the Church, as if to seek a dialogue with the past, to question the role of women today in Naples. The performances took place along the streets of Forcella, at the Hypogeum and finally at the RIOT studio, in the imposing sixteenth-century complex of Palazzo Marigliano. From their filming, the artist has therefore created a video installation that will remain on display at the Hypogeum of Santa Maria delle Anime del Purgatorio in Arco until 25 July. We thank the Morra Greco Foundation and the Riot studio for their collaboration.
