From 2 December to 24 February 2020
"Escape from the museum": at MANN the photographic exhibition by Dario Assisi and Riccardo Maria Cipolla from 2 December 2019 (vernissage 5pm) to 24 February 2020, a creative journey to tell the story of the Museum and the City.
The Farnese sculptures , thanks to photomontage, presented in the symbolic places of Naples 22 November. Smile and lightness : these are the key words of the exhibition "Escape from the museum", which Dario Assisi and Riccardo Maria Cipolla will present to the public, in the Sala del Toro Farnese, from 2 December 2019 (vernissage at 5pm) to 24 February 2020.
Forty photomontages to imagine what the "life" of the sculptures from the Archaeologist would be (even the works of art, thanks to the power of the imagination, move), "escaping" from the rooms of the Museum towards the streets, squares and corners characteristic of Naples.
After the success of the "Ghosts in Pompeii" exhibition, in which the figures of the mosaics and frescoes of the MANN were transposed, again thanks to photomontage, in the excavations of the ancient Vesuvian city, the new creative path followed by Assisi and Cipolla will be a real act of love for the city of Naples: Castel dell'Ovo, the seafront, Piazza del Plebiscito, the Petraio, the alleys of the historic center, but also the bus shelters and the subway cars, will become the background for a new temporal and visual short circuit.
Between yesterday and today, between the whiteness of the marbles, the brilliance of the bronzes and the liveliness of the metropolitan horizon, it may happen to meet the sculpture of the Aphrodite crouched in vico Lungo Gelso, admire the dynamic power of the Farnese Bull in harmonious dialogue with a stormy sky, collide with the Doryphoros in the station of line 1 at the Museum.
Canova's masterpieces will not be missing, on display at the Archeologico on the occasion of the retrospective on the Maestro di Possagno: the dancer with her hands on her hips will find, in vico san Domenico, a new space for a symbolic exhibition, while Amore and Pische Stanti will embrace tenderly in the Royal Botanical Garden.
The leading image of the exhibition "Escape from the museum" will be the Aphrodite of Capua: only thanks to creativity, the famous sculpture of the Farnese Collection will look out to hang the clothes, finding harmony and lightness of the gesture in the daily dimension of a usual morning of the third Millennium.
“ Our project stems from the desire to give life to the MANN statues, making them real creatures that interact with reality. The sculptures become people who roam the cities, eager to discover their mysteries, beauties and fears ”, comment Dario Assisi and Riccardo Maria Cipolla.
