From 17 April to 29 May 2023
Enzo Troiano presents a one-man show at the National Archaeological Museum of Naples that focuses on a theme he has often addressed: science fiction. The exhibition, scheduled from 17 April to 29 May, is set up in the exhibition area of the so-called Braccio Nuovo and includes about 70 comic strips, of which about 15 are unpublished. The author, an internationally renowned cartoonist, has published in Italy and abroad: from Spain, to Great Britain, to the USA and in the Commonwealth countries, through the English agency Beehive Illustration.
Sci-fiction in the Italian collective imagination is mainly associated with American or Rising Sun authors, when in reality the theme is also explored by us and Troiano is one of the most authoritative and representative authors of this vein. In fact, he does not limit himself to illustrating or drawing comics, but writes his stories in the first person, thus configuring himself as a complete author. Most of the works on display are taken from comics published by the author, such as Korea 2145, Lufer, Eracle 91, Harcadya, Gulliver, Omegha, Blood Lylium. Furthermore, there are several unpublished tables, created for the exhibition and inspired by the ancient world in a sci-fiction key, made in mixed technique: pastels, markers, acrylic and airbrush. Also under construction are the layouts and preparatory drawings of the comic Partenope Terminal, with texts by Ciro Sapone. The clearly Neapolitan references that populate his stories and his drawings make the themes and characters present in his comics more original, but still international.
