From 6 December to 2 May 2022
A journey between myths and characters of the Comedy in an ideal connection between classical iconography, medieval culture and contemporary sensitivity: the exhibition "Divine Archeology. Mythology and history of Dante's Comedy in the MANN collections", links the Supreme Poet to the ancient authors who, with the language of art, narrated the legendary figures present in the poem of Alighieri.
Like his contemporaries, Dante knew classical mythology almost exclusively through literary sources: in a certain sense, the fifty-six exhibits in the exhibition let us imagine the Florentine writer alongside vases, statues, reliefs, coins, which he certainly did not see with his eyes, even if, with the power of the word, he managed to recreate the visual suggestion.
The exhibition is part of the celebrations of Dante700 promoted by the MiC and is linked to Dantedi '2022 (March 25) to end on May 2, it is presented in the rooms of the Frescoes. On one vault in the room of the Oriental Cults there is a famous portrait of Alighieri (1888) by the painter Paolo Vetri.
