The Musée naval du Maillé-Brézé is a naval museum in Nantes. It is an ancient battleship (the only battleship declared a historical monument) which has now become a real floating museum, one of the most important in France. Former flagship of the French Navy, the Maillé Brézé is part of a series of 18 escort squadrons built in the 1950s. The ship has a length of 132.65 meters, a width of 12.7 meters and a float of 5.8 meters. Its crew numbered up to 277 men. The ship was active from 1957 to 1968. In 1988 it was brought to Nantes, becoming a museum. The museum offers guided tours and it is possible to visit the engine room with engines, the command bridge, the arms sections, the operations rooms, the cabins, the infirmary and the kitchens.
The museum is open all year round, but can only be accessed with guided tours:
Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays: 2 guided tours at 2.30pm and 3pm
Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays: visits at 2.30 pm, 3.00 pm, 3.30 pm, 4.00 pm, 4.30 pm
