Die Neue Sammlung - Design Museum is a Munich museum entirely dedicated to Design. It is one of the four museums of the "Pinakothek der Moderne", one of the most important museums of modern and contemporary art in Germany, which contains the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, the Museum of Design, the Cabinet of Drawings and della Grafica and the Museum of Architecture. Founded in 1925, Die Neue Sammlung - Design Museum is considered the first design museum in the world, built even before the invention of the term "Design". Its foundation originates from the creation of the famous association " Deutsche Werkbund", in which it was intended to bridge the gap between industry and applied arts that occurred during the recent extraordinary economic development, proposing a new culture of industrial work. The museum now houses the largest collection in the world of Industrial Design and Product Design, as well as the collection of modern and contemporary graphics and crafts. The collection contains over 100,000 design pieces, and is divided into more than twenty sectors, including automotive and transportation design, technological design, everyday design objects in plastic, glass, and ceramics. Particular focus is placed on the design of Japan and South Korea.
