The School of Narrative Dance
On occasion of the exhibition, Senatore is organizing an edition of The School of Narrative Dance in Salzburg. The exhibition itself sheds light on the project’s history and artistic context. Drawings, collages, banners, an open workshop area, a light installation, and a video documentation illustrate the various dimensions of TheSchool of Narrative Dance (see p. 2 for more information).
It’s Time to Go Back to Street
Senatore uses drawings and collages as ways to reflect and consider. An important theme of her drawings is the question of how people form alliances of solidarity on the streets, but also how mass gatherings can become manifestations of totalitarian regimes. The series It’s Time to Go Back to Street, which Senatore has worked on since 2019, is a steadily growing atlas of pictures. Many of the drawings show protest marches and meetings: women, workers, people of color, activists, and demonstrators rising up against injustice and repression. In other drawings, Senatore explores choreographed marches from the past and present of authoritarian systems of government. In these mass configurations, people appear as rigidly coordinated bodies, subject to total control and discipline. The studies also include motifs from The School of Narrative Dance. A flowing mass of people can create enormous energy, and it is important to ask how a large number of dancing people on the street and in an urban setting can be led so that they really form a community that creates equality, inclusion, and empowerment.
