The Musée Languedocien is a museum of history and archeology of Montpellier specializing in the heritage of the Languedoc, an ancient territory of the south of France, in particular of the medieval and modern period. Since 1992, the museum has been housed in the old Hotel des Trésoriers de France: it is one of the oldest particulier hotels in Montpellier, dating back to the first half of the 15th century. The museum was founded in 1992 and is managed by the Societé archéologique de Montpellier. Its collection extends from prehistoric times to the 19th century and brings together numerous unique objects from the Languedoc, including an important collection of Montpellier porcelain plates, produced between the 17th and 18th centuries; a collection of medieval plates among the most important in Europe: more than 400 ceramic pieces discovered in 1985; numerous everyday objects from the medieval era; numerous sculpted capitals from pre-Roman, Roman and Gothic periods; an exceptional collection of paintings on wood from the time of James the Conqueror, among the rarest known as regards the genre and the period; furniture from the 15th and 16th centuries; medieval and modern manuscripts and finally numerous objects from the daily life of antiquity, such as glass and terracotta objects.
