From 9 September 2022 in Modena the visionary exhibition of a great contemporary artist in dialogue with a masterpiece of the museum and the artistic heritage of the Estensi Galleries

From 9 September 2022 to 31 January 2023 the Estens i Galleries present the Simon Starling exhibition in the Modena headquarters. Metamorph fire. Under the light of Tintoretto , an innovative installation that will lead the visitor to an immersive experience thanks to a single work that connects some of the most current themes of our time to the extraordinary artistic heritage of the museum. The title, in a prophetic way, also refers to the current drought and more generally, to the effects of climate change, becoming an allegory of the contemporary world, of a technology that destabilizes an ecosystem that man can no longer manage. .

Conceived in the context of the Estense Galleries of Modena and inspired by the works of the pictorial cycle of Tintoretto in the Estense Gallery and by the xylographies of the Estense Library, the exhibition is the result of a work of exploration and imagination by a great contemporary artist, in connection with the cultural context of the territory.

The exhibition is part of a program launched in 2021 that every year sees a contemporary artist compete with the works of the museum collections and the themes they pose. The project, entitled "artist in residence", asks the artists interviewed each year to come and live in the museum, establishing a dialectical relationship with it. In this way, contemporary art becomes part of the museum of ancient art not as a foreign insertion but as a translator of the demands that contemporaneity requires it to face.
