The desire to know the stars has not only characterized religious sentiment, but also writers and poets, influenced by the Renaissance astronomical discoveries, from Copernicus (1473-1543) to Galileo Galilei (1564-1642) and Johannes Kepler (1571-1630), imagined the possibility of reaching the stars, the moon in particular. It is in this way that in 1620 the English bishop Francis Godwin wrote one of the first science fiction texts in history, The Man in the Moone, in which he tells the story of a man flying to the moon transported by a flying machine led by a flock of birds.
