On the occasion of the entry of the two still lifes by the Master of Hartford into the collections of the Estense Gallery, the paintings were provided with frames they were lacking. The choice was made for a so-called Salvator Rosa type, based on models from the Sixteenth and Seventeenth centuries already present in the museum. The frames were hand-carved and gilded in a specialized workshop in Florence. The production of the frames was offered by the Association of Friends of the Estense Galleries.
