From 27 April to 29 July 2023
Dedicated to the Library of the Dukes of Este in the sixteenth century, the second episode of the infinite exhibition is told in the words of Domenico Fava, director of the Estense library from 1913 to 1933. The quotations taken from The Estense Library in its historical development, published in Modena in 1925, accompany us and punctuate the story of the various phases, the last in Ferrara, of the life of the ducal library in the sixteenth century: from the reign of Alfonso I and Ercole II, "not very lucky for the ancient court library" to the turning point marked by Alfonso II, who instead has "the merit of having reconstituted the Estensi Library for the second time after Niccolò III".
